Considered the hub for tourism and commercial industry in the White Mountains region of Arizona, the city of Show Low was so named by a fateful turn of a deuce of clubs that won CE Cooley a 100,000 acre ranch that would become Show Low real estate. The City Council of Show Low has taken a proactive approach to the growth of their community while promising the residents that their high quality of life will not change.
History of Show LowCE Cooley won the 10,000 acres of Show Low land in 1875 by showing the lowest card ("show low") at the end of a marathon poker session. Cooley halved his acreage by selling it off to Mr. Henry Huning and the city grew from there. The beauty of the surrounding White Mountains made Show Low a destination of choice for tourists in the area. Tourism continues to play a large part in the local economy today. The city was eventually incorporated in 1953.
